Job Description
The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing technical, clinical, and clerical support to the providers and/or physicians, to include medication disbursement to patients. The position is located at the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, Health Services Division.
Responsibilities:
- Retrieves medications and distributes them during medication pass times to inmates housed at various locations within the Ada County Jail;
- Documents appropriate medication disbursement in computer system;
- Processes prescription medication for refill and provides instruction per physician direction;
- Assists in maintaining medication inventory and monitors supplies and prescriptions as outlined by supervisor, provider and/or physician;
- Receives and inventories medications and supplies from pharmaceutical supplier;
- Provides care to patients under the direction of the provider and specific scope of practice;
- Performs medical procedures as outlined by provider and/or physician;
- Follows procedures to contain the spread of contagious diseases and promote infection control;
- Assists in monitoring medical equipment, maintaining inventory, and ordering replacements;
- Schedules and documents appointments, diagnostic tests, and registrations using appropriate systems including computer and telephone, and initiates reminders as necessary;
- Develops and/or edits documentation including charts, reports, transcriptions, etc.;
- Works and maintains eligibility to work all shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, whether assigned or on an as needed or on-call basis.
Requirements:
- Graduation from a school of technology with current CMA or RMA certification;
- Knowledge and understanding of the triage process;
- Skill in demonstrating competency with basic medical procedures;
- Ability to interact with patients and families with a variety of developmental needs and sociocultural backgrounds;
- Ability to maintain confidential materials and medical records;
- Ability to exercise tact, diplomacy, and patience;
- Ability to observe and understand physical conditions and behavior;
- Ability and willingness to work with patients’ growth and development needs particularly related to the age of patients in the unit/area(s) of assignment;
- Ability to manage a chaotic work environment related to changing patient needs;
- Ability to work with patients with behavioral and/or developmental medical conditions;
- Ability and willingness to exhibit behaviors consistent with performance standards and organizational values (e.g., efficiency and financial responsibility, safety, partnership and service, teamwork, compassion, integrity, and trust and respect);
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing to individuals and groups;

- This position may require shift work;
- The incumbent must maintain current certification as a CMA or RMA, as well as CPR/BLS certification;
- Must pass an oral interview, polygraph exam and background investigation prior to being hired;
- This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.
