Job Description

Performs work in the assessment, processing and monitoring of clients in the Ada County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) Pretrial Services Unit; reads and interprets court documents to ensure proper execution of court orders; monitors and interprets urinalysis and electronic monitoring results; meets with clients to discuss electronic monitoring and/or other substance use evaluations, results, expectations and guidelines; and performs related duties as required. The position is located at the Ada County Sheriff’s Office, Court Services Bureau – Day Reporting Center.

Responsibilities:

  • Manages defendants subject to various Pretrial monitoring and testing conditions;
  • Completes daily appointments, enrolls defendants into programs and prepares necessary paper and software files;
  • Assesses defendant needs to mitigate risk and foster success;
  • Communicates effectively with external vendors to ensure optimal service;
  • Responds to questions and requests from defendants, public, law enforcement, and stakeholders;
  • Assists in the resolution of problems on Pretrial orders and/or referring to appropriate staff for these resolutions;
  • Performs accurate and thorough data entry;
  • Provides written and verbal court testimony related to Pretrial programs, monitoring and testing;
  • Audits Pretrial and electronic monitoring files and data for accuracy to assure required supporting documentation is complete;
  • Interprets court orders and no contact/protection orders for accurate data input and monitoring;
  • Creates, updates and maintains electronic records and files covering daily actions and tasks;
  • Performs national and local record searches.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology or a related human service field or equivalent experience;
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent;
  • Must have a basic understanding of Pretrial justice, Misdemeanor Probation, and Alternatives to Incarceration concepts as it relates to community and the jail setting.
  • Must possess case management and customer service skills;
  • Previous experience working with and/or supervising offenders preferred;
  • Knowledge of legal terminology and forms preferred;
  • Knowledge of computer systems, file structure and Microsoft Office;
  • Skill in de-escalating confrontational situations;
  • Skill in report writing and record keeping;
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with culturally diverse populations;
  • Ability to learn new computer applications;
  • Ability to input and maintain a large amount of data with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality;
  • Ability to research, investigate and correct clerical data;
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions;
  • Ability to adapt to changes in processes and procedures;
  • Ability to effectively evaluate potentially adverse or unsafe situations and react according to department policy.
  • Must appear before an oral board and complete a polygraph and background investigation prior to hire.
  • This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.
  • Most of the work is performed in and around the jail facility and involves an element of personal danger;
  • Work is performed in an office environment and the employees in this class are subject to inside environmental conditions;
  • May be required to lift up to 20 lbs.
